Fatigue strength assessment of container ships

Abstract

A procedure of fatigue strength assessment of container ships is described in the paper. The so called "direct approach”procedure was developed on the basis of different methods of long-term total stress range prediction (stepwise approximation, Weibull distribution and direct summation of accumulated fatigue damages for all sea states). The proposed procedure was applied to a currently designed container ship and its results will be published in second part of the paper.
