INCREASE OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AS A CRITERION OF IMPROVEMENT OF LIFE AND ENVIRONMENT QUALITY

Abstract

The growth in energy demand and its use – that leads, inter alia, to environmental deterioration – caused improving energy efficiency in the economy. An example is the building industry, a sector of significant energy consumption, for which legislative, engineering,
technological and organizational activities undertaken to improve energy efficiency and its impact on enhancing environmental quality and the quality of life in the EU are presented. Also the problem of so called „energy poverty” is addressed. Its interconnections with energy efficiency as well as negative impact on the environment and affected people are shown. Implementable proposals for reducing the extent of this phenomenon in Poland with reference to the EU experience are presented.
