About the Journal
Modernism in Europe – Modernism in Gdynia. Journal of Architecture and Heritage explores the architectural and urban legacy of the 20th century. It continues the publication series initiated in 2009 by the City of Gdynia and, since 2019, has been co-published with the Faculty of Architecture at Gdańsk University of Technology, now functioning as a formal academic journal.
Mission
The journal supports interdisciplinary research in the fields of conservation, documentation, interpretation, and promotion of modern architecture. It serves as a platform for scholars, conservationists, and practitioners from Poland and abroad, thereby contributing to a broader understanding of modern heritage within the European context.
Scope and Focus
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- modernist and post-war architecture,
- architectural heritage of port and industrial cities,
- preservation, conservation, and revitalisation practices,
- authenticity and integrity in modernist monuments,
- documentation and evaluation of heritage buildings,
- public architecture in Central and Eastern Europe,
- socio-political and cultural contexts of modernism,
- strategies of public engagement and heritage communication.
The journal publishes:
- research articles (theoretical and empirical),
- case studies and reports,
- conservation studies and documentation,
- project-based contributions.

The journal provides immediate open access to all its content.
The authors retain copyright in articles published in the journal. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
This license permits anyone to share and adapt the published material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author or authors and the journal, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the original work are indicated.
Archiving
The journal’s content is archived and preserved on the MOST Wiedzy platform maintained by Gdańsk University of Technology, ensuring continued access to published articles.
Ethics Statement
The journal is committed to following the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to comply with recognised standards of integrity and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing.
